A clamour is already growing for the 47-year-old to stay on after masterminding a second successive triumph over the United States.

The 67-year-old said he felt ‘very emotional’ after accepting the honour from William at Windsor Castle on Tuesday.

The actress, known for her roles in Longford and The Serpent Queen, was honoured for services to drama and charity.

He has since been charged, and is expected to appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice on Tuesday afternoon.
